Percussive maintenance:

Think I'm kidding? The old gal hasn't completely jumped the broom toward the dark side, but since her new MacBook Pro arrived and she got her favorite Adobe CS3 suite installed, she has certainly begun developing a healthy respect for it. Mac users may enjoy these new pages to come. You will learn the frustrations an old PC mavin endures while learning to talk to a new computer. You will also have a special insight as to the differences between the two operating systems, and maybe not look down your noses at PC users in the future. There really are great things about both systems. So watch this page kiddies! It's going to be a great ride! First Impressions...The new machine arrived early in the morning of March 31, 2008... It was exciting. Nothing makes my heart go pitty pat like the smell of a new computer coming out of the box. I was amazed at how easily it found the network and connected to the Internet. The new Dell Vista machine did great connecting to the Internet the first time too. Back to the Mac. The first thing I noticed was the minimize, maximize and close buttons were on the top left side of the windows. That sure explains why my sister Nancy always seemed so disoriented when she would try to explain something or another in Photoshop on one of my computers. My buttons were on the top right. Well, getting over that little hump isn't as bad as I thought it would be. It sure give me a better understanding of my sister's computer habits though, and I'm grateful for that. The first thing I installed was the web design suite from Adobe (CS3), including Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Fireworks and other assorted Adobe goodies. It is a huge suite, and installing was certainly different from what I have been used to. I made sure I read the directions carefully though, and within minutes the process was well on the way and the machine did the rest. Using the software is very comfortable. It looks almost the same on both my PC and the Mac. It is a great way for me to become more familiar with the subtle differences in this Leopard operating system. So far, I'm seeing a lot of familiar Vista things. My sister said Microsoft designed Vista to look like a Mac. I don't really want to get into that. Suffice to say, both are great and very easy to use. I'll let you in on specific goodies and annoyances as time goes by.... More later... 2 years later...I am sooooo loving this machine! It is holding up like a champ, I have taken it on two trips (getting ready to take it on another road trip), and it not only hasn't given me any stress, it just plain works... all the time. Radium is a GEM of a radio program, only for the Mac, and the first Mac software I have reviewed. Look for more soon!
